Counselor
A counselor is a person who counsels or advices or suggests to people and tries to make their lives change for the better. A counselor plays an important role in supporting people in need by listening to their problems with sensitivity and offers solutions to them by way of therapy. A counselor can help a person in many areas of life like education, health, family or emotional state of mind. Counseling is also a very good profession, as it offers growth and job satisfaction to the practitioner.
A counselor works in many sectors concerned with social work and there are many types of counseling jobs available. One can be an educational counselor, a marriage counselor or a rehabilitation counselor and many others. The scope and areas of work is huge for a counselor. Although a master’s degree holder in any field of study concerned with social work, therapy and counseling is enough to work as a counselor, some states will require a licensed individual like an LCSW for example, to practice their vocation within its boundaries. The employment rate for the qualified counselor is good with about eleven percent of qualified counselors finding employment with government bodies and about forty seven percent of them in the health care and social sectors.
